What Is Business Continuity Planning

Business Continuity is the process of keeping your business together when things go wrong or when disaster strikes and in order to do this, you need to have plans in place for what to do when things go wrong. We provide business continuity planning for businesses in Cheltenham and Gloucestershire

What Can Go Wrong?

Any number of things can go wrong, but let's say your office has a major fire. You need to consider things like:

  • What will we lose?
  • How can we get those items back?
  • How will our business be effected?
  • Will we be able to continue working?
  • What will we do to continue working?

These types of questions will reveal quite a lot about where you already are with regards disaster recovery and how well you can recover when disaster strikes.

Is Your Data Safe?

As computer experts we consult and advise on IT disaster recovery options and our main concern is data integrity and the ability to recover data if it is lost.

It's Fine, We've Got Backups!

Great, you've got backups but are they now any good to you? Were the backups in that fire or were they off-site? How can you now access the data on the backups?

In general, off-site data is usually in three forms:

  • Tapes that have been taken off-site
  • Online backups to remote servers
  • Remote server replication to company servers in a different location.

If you have tapes, you'll need a similar tape unit to read the data from that tape. You'll also need a server to attach the tape unit and if you've been using a database or email system, you'll need the same software installed to run the data.

If you've lost everything in a fire, what is your insurance policy like? How quickly can you get that money back and in the meantime, can you afford to buy new equipment and be up and running again quickly.

As you can see, there is a lot to consider when considering Business Continuity Plans and Disaster Recovery Plans. You might not be able to cover every eventuality, but you can be much better prepared.
