How Can We Help ?
website development is more than just creating a nice looking website with amazing graphics. It is about representing your business and letting people know what you do as soon as they visit your site. They should not be left clicking various links trying to determine who you are.
Visitors to websites are generally impatient. If they visit your site and can't figure out who you are and what you do, they'll leave your site and go to another one. According to Canadian researchers, people can take as little as 50 milliseconds (1/20th of a second) to judge your website. (source: www.websiteoptimisation.com) This means you have to get it right and whereby the visuals can be important, layout and ease of use is also important; as is presenting the right image.
Our web designers will spend time understanding your business before developing the website. Once they understand who you are and what you do, they will then look at your target market and research your competition.
Why Research Your Competition ?
Let's then choose to search for "hotels in England". This offers 550,000 websites which has improved the chances of someone finding your site quite dramatically, but not dramatically enough.
The next search term we can try is "hotels in Cheltenham" which reduces the results even further to 162,000 and we can reduce that further by searching for "boutique hotels in Cheltenham" which shows results for 86,000 websites.
So, by changing our search criteria, we can reduce the competition and even though you might not be a boutique hotel, we need to find a way of marketing your website through search engines such as Google and Yahoo in such a manner that allows your potential customers to find your website more easily; especially if you are a business which has a large amount of competition.
How To Get Your website Noticed
Pay Per Click Advertising
Let's focus on Google for now but the principles are the same for the others.
A new website or a website with a high level of competition might struggle to get a good listing within Google. You can optimise your website through various SEO techniques, but the nature of SEO could mean the results will not be seen for a few months. Waiting a few months might not be an option especially if your business relies heavily on your website and so you can use PPCs as an immediate and effective option.
What is Pay Per Click ?
Pay Per Click is when you pay for a textual advertisement to appear either at the very top or down the right hand side of a Google search page. To do this, you set up an AdWords account with Google and then create a small textual advert that clearly advertises your website. You then create a list of keywords that trigger the appearance of that advert. You only pay if someone clicks on your advert.

The image above shows Sponsored links at the top of a Google search page (inside the blue box - which we've added) and Google AdWords running down the right hand column of a Google search page (inside the red box - which we've added).
How Much Does PPC cost?
Let's say you want your advert to appear every time someone types in a search for Hotels. This is a popular keyword and many people will be using the same keyword and so you'd have to bid a lot of money (maybe $1 or more) for your advert to appear high on the list. If you bid less than your competitors' your advert will slip down the list. How much you bid can be adjusted daily and so you can trial an error a good bid.
If your keyword is not very popular, you could get away with 5 cents a click.
PPC Sounds Expensive !
If you set a budget of $5 per day, and you have bid 5 cents per click, you advert will show until your advert has been clicked on 100 times. Just showing is NOT a click. You only pay when someone clicks your advert. Once your budget for a day has been reached, your adverts will stop showing until the next day.
You can also target your adverts so that they show only for the country(s) you wish your advert to be seen. For instance, if you are a hotel and all your customers tend to come from the UK, Europe, USA, Australia, then state that you only want your adverts to appear within Google for those countries. You can eliminate the other countries and not waste money on people clicking your adverts when they probably won't convert into a sale.
